Week 1: About Me Post 2/2
During my practicum, I have incorporated technology in each and every class without fail. YouTube was my main go to as I could always find videos that were related to the topics that I was teaching. I also used the i-Charade application in my classes. It was a success for me as the students truly enjoyed it. It is not a typical chalk and talk method and students love something different and it sparks their curiosity hence they become more participative.
My prediction on the usage of technology in language teaching and learning is that it will become an imperative tool that is needed in classroom. More useful applications will be created to tailor the students' need in terms of learning a new language that is more practical and engaging. It will become accessible to everyone and it will be included and made compulsory by the Ministry of Education.
From this particular course which is Computer Assisted Language Learning (TSL641), I am genuinely hoping that I will gain more knowledge on language software and how I can use it effectively in classroom. I also hope to know more about Information Communication Technology (ICT) in an ESL classroom because it is a term that I always come across but never truly understand. Lastly, of course I also aim to improve my computer skills.
The topic that I have chosen for my Academic Exercise is "Attitudes and Motivation Towards Learning English among Arts and Science Students in Malaysia". I have chosen this topic mainly because of my experience teaching both art and science students during practicum. I am curious to find out what they feel about English and what motivates them. In the end of the research, I hope to compare the result between them and find if there is any significant reason behind it. My supervisor is the wonderful Madam Geetha and I plan to complete my AE by following her advice and not procrastinate my work. Hopefully I can submit my AE on time.
improve my computer skills. ...it is a more of exploring available tools for language learning and teaching.
