1. use adjectives to describe food in the menu. 2. choose the correct adjectives for texture and flavor in an adjective game. | ||
ACTIVITIES:
i) Set Induction (10 mins)
|
1. Teacher starts the class by showing an advertisement of McDonald's burger on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz2J0BoVrmc
2. Teacher elicits responses from students by asking weather they are intrigued to the food advertised or not. | ||
ii) Introduction
(20 mins) | 1. Teacher highlights some of the adjectives used in the advertisement (with the students' help): sizzling, smokey, sweetness, sizzling, savory 2. Teacher explains that adjectives are not only used to describe a person, it can also be used to describe food in terms of flavors and textures. 3. Teacher prompts students to give more adjectives to describe food (e.g: salty, bitter, tart, smelly,crumbly, crunchy, spicy, greasy, gooey) 4. Teacher shows two examples of menus using the LCD projector (one menu is simple and straightforward and the other includes descriptions of the food using adjectives). 5. Teacher asks the students to choose which menu seems more appealing. 6. Students give reasons for their choice (expected reason: because of the usage of adjectives) Activity 1: Appetizing Adjectives Menu Project- (25 minutes) 7. Students are divided into 7 groups of 3. 8. Students are asked to be imaginary restaurant owners. 9. Students are required to come up with a menu of their imaginary restaurants. 10.Each group is assigned to one computer. 11. Students are required to go to a website titled 'PosterMyWall' which is a free online menu maker that has thousands of usable templates (https://www.postermywall.com/index.php/l/menu-maker#.XLk4LOgzZPY). 12. Teacher explains to the students on how to use the website. 13. Students are required to sign up to the website using their e-mail and choose the free plan option. 14. Students are then required to come up with the name of their restaurants and create a menu online and incorporate adjectives to describe the food. 15. Students are free to use the tools and templates in the website and be creative. 16. Teacher shows an infographic on what to include in a menu in front for students to refer to. 17.Students are required to save their work and present it in front. 18.Students are required to highlight the usage of adjectives in their menu. 19. Teacher will pick the restaurant that she finds most interesting based on the usage of adjectives and creativity. 20. The winning team receives a reward from the teacher. Activity 2: Turtle Diary-Adjective Car Race Game (20 minutes) 21. Teacher asks the students to open a game on the turtle diary gaming website and search for "Identifying Adjective Car Race Game" (https://www.turtlediary.com/game/adjective-words.html). 22. Teacher explains the rule of the game whereby it is a racing game where the car run on the power of the correct answer where the student need to identify adjectives that describes either texture or taste. The speed of the car increases when the student answer it correctly. The faster they answer, the faster the car goes. 23. If the student answer it wrongly, the car speed will decrease. 24. There are three stages and students are encouraged to try stage 3 as it suits their level. 25. Students do their best to reach to the finish line in the shortest time possible. | ||
iii) Conclusion (15 mins)

Teacher concludes the lesson by reminding students on what are adjectives and how it can be used to describe food's taste and textures.
