Week 7: Internet As Sources for Teaching and Learning
Task 1
1. Elaborate on the advantages of the Internet as resources for teaching and learning based on the three points:
1. Elaborate on the advantages of the Internet as resources for teaching and learning based on the three points:
- SCOPE: Internet provides a wide -range of scope for teaching and learning. Students are no longer required to stay in the classroom listening to the teacher's explanation and copying notes from the whiteboard. With internet, students can do fun activities such as online quizzes, learning through videos, and fun educational games. The scope of online learning has broadened beyond classical teaching and is not confined to only in the classroom as students can have access to internet anywhere and anytime.
- TOPICALITY: There are too many websites that offer variety of contents for learners of different levels and background. It is just one click away. Most of the websites would arrange their topics accordingly and students can just pick the topic that they desire to learn. Students can also search for the topic that they want to learn at the search bar hence it is very easy for them and they can always refer back to it. The contents are usually very comprehensive as students can have access to the notes, exercises and even videos. The best thing is, most of them are also free. Teachers will also benefit from this as they can print out the materials and share them with their students.
- PERSONALIZATION: When it comes to learning online, students have their freedom to learn whatever they want and they can do so without any restriction on time. In other words, students are learning on their own pace. They can choose which website they prefer the most and they can do the exercises that are most effective to them. Not only that, they can do their own revision on topics that need more reinforcement. It benefits both the slow and fast learners as they have the autonomy in learning. This will motivate the students even more.
2. Add one (1) more point(s) that makes the internet in your opinion a better resource.
- In my opinion, internet is a better resource for teaching and learning as it is modern and people nowadays prefer to consume content using the internet rather that in other way. We are living in a world where people look up to technology hence it make sense that the education right now is leading towards e-learning platform. Students do not have to spend their money as they can have free access to most of the contents. For teachers on the other hands, they can easily adapt the materials from the internet to suit their learning objectives. When we talk about internet, the possibilities are simply endless.
3. Complete the following quotation by creating a poster/infographic using which ever online tool that you are familiar with.
Task 2
1. List one (1) or more topics that are not covered in in our Secondary School English language syllabus but you think would be relevant and of interest to our students based on your experience during practicum (e.g superstitions, UFO and etc)
The topic that I would love to teach my students is "How to Deal with a Breakup". This topic might sound silly, but believe me during my practicum time I had to deal with students suddenly being so quiet in class or abruptly crying during a lesson. We have to admit that we start to learn about love and getting into relationships even from high school, therefore I believe this topic should be taught to Form 5 students who are I guess more prone towards the issue of being in love and heartbreak. I also just recently read a news on a Form 1 student who almost committed suicide as his love was rejected. They will also find this topic interesting and relatable at one point and it might also be a useful guide for them in the future.
2. Provide examples of the sites:

3. Choose one (1) of the site and create a lesson plan for only about 30 minutes for the teaching of one (1) skill with one (1) learning objective and one (1) activity. Use the lesson plan format that you use during practicum. The website must not be an ESL teaching and learning site.
